Play and Learn: Letter Recognition Games with Magnetic Letters
Posted by
onI am always looking for new (and fun) ways to work with letter recognition with my preschooler. He is at an age where he loses interest quickly and I don’t want to ‘force’ him to do letter activities and have him resent learning. I was in the dollar store the other day and picked up a few packages of magnetic letters and a cookie tray. Over the next few days we played some games to help him with his letter recognition.
1. Letter Search
For this game I mixed up all the letters on the tray and we took turns picking letters to have the other person find.
2. Find the uppercase/lowercase letter
Since I had a combination of both uppercase and lowercase letters we took turns pulling out an uppercase or lowercase letter and asking the other person to find the corresponding letter.
3. Spelling
My son can spell a few three letter words and loves to spell them out so it was fun teaching him new words to spell with the magnets.
4. Letter Sounds
We would pull out letters, say the letter, say the letter sound, and name a few words that started with that letter.
All of these games would be more fun with someone his own age, so I am excited to play these games with his friends on their next play date! Do you have any fun letter learning activities you like to do with your kids?
