DIY Wrapping Paper

Posted by Jessica Jones on

For the first Mother's Day in a long time I am finished shopping early and decided to spend the morning wrapping the gifts with my kids. They are at the age where they get excited about gift giving so I decided to try to find a way to get them more involved.

After doing a little browsing on Pinterest I decided to let them help with the wrapping, while I don't trust them with the scissors and tape quite yet I thought it would be fun for them to help with decorating the gifts. Here are some easy DIY ideas that you can do with your kids (or if you want them to look a little more polished do them alone).

Pom Pom Wrapping Paper

Supplies: small craft pom poms, white kraft paper, hot glue gun

After wrapping the gifts in white kraft paper I used my hot glue gun to dab glue on the paper and the boys used some pom poms to decorate the packaging.

Ribbon

Supplies: ribbon, kraft paper, scotch tape

At the craft store I let my boys each pick out a ribbon color, then after the gifts were wrapped I let them wrap the ribbon around a few times and adhere to the back with tape. I loved the color blocking effect and on this box there is enough room for a cute gift tag.

Painted Wrapping Paper

My mom LOVES polka dots, so my older son wanted to paint her gift from him and his brother with polka dots. Since he didn't get this idea until we got home I tried to cut a circle from a new sponge, with a little forward thinking and an actual circle sponge this would have been my favorite and is definitely one I will try again. Another fun way to paint the wrapping paper would be by using old easter eggs like we did here

This was a fun project and another great way to get kids excited about giving gifts (as opposed to always wanting to receive them).

*For all of these I used plain white kraft paper to wrap all the gifts, another alternative would be butcher paper.

Mother's Day Gift Inspiration

With Easter falling late this year it is easy to forget that Mother's Day is a month from tomorrow! This hit me yesterday and I started thinking about how I need to start thinking about what the moms in my life. If you haven't started thinking about it yet, now is the time to start [...]
